How much does Etsy take per sale? It depends on the size of the order

The short answer sellers repeat — 'about 10%' — is close for a mid-sized order and badly wrong at the extremes. Etsy's cut is a percentage plus two flat charges, so the effective rate falls as orders get bigger. Here it is at seven order sizes.

The real take rate, by order size

Every figure below is $0.20 listing + 6.5% transaction + 3% + $0.25 US payment processing. The right-hand columns add Offsite Ads at 15%.

Why small orders hurt so much

The $0.20 listing fee and the $0.25 processing charge are flat. On a $250.00 order those $0.45 together are rounding error. On a $10.00 order they are 4.5% of the sale on their own, before a single percentage-based fee applies.

That is the arithmetic behind advice you’ve probably heard without the reasoning attached: bundle small items, set a minimum order, or price stickers and small prints in multipacks. It isn’t about looking premium. It’s that flat fees are regressive, and the only defence is a bigger basket.

Watch the take rate column, not the fee column. Going from a $10.00 to a $35.00average order value doesn’t just raise revenue — it drops Etsy’s effective cut by several points, which lands entirely in your margin.

What this doesn’t include

These are Etsy’s fees only. Your own costs — materials, postage, packaging, your time — come out after. A $35.00 order where Etsy takes $3.78 still has to cover everything you spent making the thing. Use the calculator at the top of this page to see the whole picture on one of your products.

Does it change outside the US?

The listing and transaction fees are the same everywhere. Payment processing is what varies: the US pays 3% + $0.25, while UK sellers pay 4% + £0.20 and eurozone sellers 4% + €0.30. On a mid-sized order that’s roughly a one-point difference in the total take rate — real, but smaller than the difference between selling a $10.00 item and a $35.00 one.

You can switch region in the calculator above and watch the processing line change.

Fee rates on this page were verified against Etsy’s published fee schedule on 2026-07-21 and are stored in a single config file, so every page here shows the same numbers. Etsy can change fees at any time.
